The man who is called by God is a man who realizes what he is called to do, and he so realizes the awefulness of the task that he shrinks from it. Nothing but this overwhelming sense of being called, and of compulsion, should ever lead anyone to preach. ~ David-Martyn Lloyd Jones

The Wife as A Picture of God's Law
I was thinking about the wife's submission to her husband as a mirror of Christ's submission to the Father; and then I began to think about how the Holy Spirit obeys Christ through the application of His Law-Word. The behavior of women is such a driving force in the morality of a society and God has made us women multitasked individuals. So, we're either committing a lot of lawful deeds or lawlessness at once, influencing our homes, neighborhoods, cities, states and countries.
As our husbands teach the Law-Word in our homes, we are live in submission to that precious Word of God through the many things we do and say each day. And we do and say a lot, don't we? We women can kiss a wound on a child's knee, cook meals on all four burners, paste a picture to the fridge and chat with a woman friend while giving another caller a new church member's address over the telephone all at once. It's funny to hear men speak about the ability of women to do so many things at one time. I've heard many women friends tell humorous stories about their husbands staying home for one day to take care of the children and the home and thanked the Lord that their wives were the ones who worked in the home! But that is how God made us. As women, we live God's Law in a special multitasked dimension. We speak God's law to our children and to other women as we teach them. We make our homes liveable through rules, organization and detail, and we are gifted at a special type of tenderness and mercy, which undergirds all Law. Without this tenderness, law is cruel and burdensome. It produces obedience, but not love, and thus becomes useless.
What an awesome privilege yet incredible responsibility to represent God's Law in the home! As Christ carried out God's Law in perfection in humility, we must mirror that humility as well. That means being willing to do dishes for the nintieth time cheerfully, and entertain guests who come over unannounced and receive them with open arms, whether or not we have PMS or hot flashes. It means having a quiet spirt while we speak to our husbands when what we'd really rather do is shake them and tell him like it is.
It means pointing to Christ.
